Hello McCall Athletes and Parents,
I am honored to have been selected as the Head Alpine Ski Racing Coach for the 2017-2018 Season with the McCall Winter Sports Club. Fall is just around the corner and the snow will be flying before we know it! Now is the time to begin thinking about club registration, equipment needs/upgrades and preparing for the season both mentally and physically! I plan to start more formal dryland training sessions in November. Stay tuned for more details!
Here is a little about myself. I began ski racing in New Mexico at Sandia Peak at age 9 before receiving a scholarship to attend Rowmark Ski Academy in Salt Lake City, Utah in my Junior year of high school. While living with a host family, I trained in Park City and honed many cutting edge techniques, tactics and strategies to become a top level athlete ranking in the top 25% nationally in my age group. I skied for the University of Colorado Boulder for a year before working at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games and relocating to Utah to complete my under-graduate degree in Parks Rec and Tourism. During this time, I was exposed to the sport of Skeleton Racing. Many of my ski racing skills transferred easily to this sport, and I was able to rise to an elite level quickly becoming a member of the US National Team, winning the Junior National title in 2004, competing at the 2006 Olympic Team Trials and internationally at the Europa Cup Level.
I have worked and competed as an athlete most of my life achieving proven results, developing sound philosophies and techniques which have served me well both in life and on the ski hill. I look forward to sharing this knowledge and experience with club members and their families. I will strive to assist each young athlete in realizing their potential, setting and meeting personal goals, developing valuable life skills such as how to handle setbacks all while cultivating a lifelong love for the sport of skiing!
Outside of competing, I have coached at Snowbird, Brighton, Mt. Ashland, ski patrolled at Solitude, Heliski Guided in Alaska, and have a strong interest in backcountry skiing and avalanche education. Many of my job-related experiences have included a component of youth education, and I enjoy working with young people.
I am ecstatic to meet you all and become a part of the McCall community. I hope everyone has a great remainder of the summer! I
Feel free to contact me for any specific questions or concerns. I am currently working as a river ranger in Oregon with limited cell and internet service so it may take me a few days to respond.
