Our Big Mountain Freeride Program aims to give young skiers the skills necessary to be safe, knowledgeable backcountry users and develop their skills as big mountain and freestyle skiers and snowboarders. This program offers:
1. avalanche and leadership instruction
2. guided backcountry and big mountain trips
3. terrain park training.
This program is perfect for intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders who are interested in exploring bigger terrain, out-of- bounds terrain, or are interested in the field of outdoor leadership and adventure education.
The Big Mountain program is built upon a cumulative curriculum focusing on backcountry travel, safety, and etiquette. This will include instruction in reading snow pits, making inferences from weather patterns, and choosing proper lines and aspects, as well as CPR training, Leave No Trace ethics, risk management and decision-making. There will be an emphasis on in avalanche safety, rescue, and snow science. Participants will have the opportunity to test these skills in the Brundage ‘lift-served backcountry’ and in the McCall area backcountry, as well as on trips to other resorts.
